Unvalid published names:
Yucca treculeana var. macrocarpa

Type location:
South central Texas and adjacent Mexico.

Distribution:
Extending along the Golf of Mexico from vicinity of Matagorda Bay to Brownsville, thence west and northwest to the Uvalde and Devil's River regions and north and northeast as far as the environs of San Antonio, New braunfels and Austin

Short description of the species:
Plant arborescent with one or few stems (mostly formed by the base of an old or fallen trunk), 250 to 550 cm tall and up to 30 cm thick. Leaves 50 to 130 cm long, 5 to 10 cm wide at the middle if flattened otherwise with concavity 3,5 to 5 cm wide, straight, rarely falcate or twisted, concavo-convex but sometimes flattened, rigid, flexible, blue  or yellow green. Leaf margin thin, without fibers, or very rarely with few straight fibers. Inflorescence 75 to 130 cm tall, scape short (30 cm or more, 4 to 5 cm thick at the base), glabrous, panicle mainly above the leaves (50 to 75 % above), ellipsoidal narrow below and broadened above, approximately 25 branchlets that are up to 10 cm in length. Flowers small, 2 to 4 (5) cm long, globose, greenish cream to cream. Fruit 5 to 11,5 cm long 2,5 to 3,2 cm thick, oblong cylindrical for most of the length, rarely constricted. Seeds 0,4 to 0,5 x 0,5 to 6 cm, thick, flat, rough, dull black, wingless.

Hardiness:
Not known!

It's does very well in Northern California USDA zone 8b.
But in Silver Spring Maryland, USDA zone 7a. all above ground is killed during very bad winters (like those in December 1989 and January 1994, 7 continuous days below freezing, low on the 19th of -4F, high of +5F)) The original plant had a 4' trunk and was shipped motor freight from San Antonio, Texas in 1982. Borers reduced it to an herb within 6 months and there it has remained ever since. Never dying, freezing to the ground in the killer winters. Not a very interesting plant for these parts, but moisture has never been the problem.

This plant is located on the New Jersey shore USA.
