To day this years first flower opened in the unheated greenhouse:

Pediocactus simpsonii ssp. indranus
This is a plant grown from seeds sown in 1997, the seeds were collected in Lemhi Co., Idaho (RP95).
Soon will many more plants bloom, and then the photo gallery will be updated with lots of blooming cactus.

April 1st. 2004
Finally it is spring in Northern Denmark, there are lots of flower buds in the cactus inside my two small unheated greenhouses. Today did I see buds in the following Genus: Pediocactus, Sclerocactus, Navajoa, Toumeya, all my  Echinomastus (I have one plant!) The Echinocereus has also begun to show buds, I have noticed buds in Echinocereus viridiflorus, E. chloranthus, E. coccineus, E. xroetteri, E. triglochidiatus and in E. triglochidiatus var. mojavensis. Every day when I'm home from work, I notice new buds in new plants, I really enjoy this time of the year.

Inside in the house on the window sills there is spring too, here there are flowers in Adenium obesum, Huernia angulensis, Uncarina roeoesliana, Momordica rostrata (female plant) and Kedrostis africana, soon am I able to double the list of blooming plants every week, it sure is a wonderful time of the year.

There can still be loses In the cactus garden outside, as the April weather can be hard to the winter stressed plants, but at the time of writing, there does not seem to be many dead plants in the winter of 2003-2004. A few Echinocereus and Yuccas which were planted out as hardiness test, are dead, so this was no surprise with most of them, I actually think I have been quite blessed this year. I hope you were too.

News:
I have helped a friend of mine whom owns a "normal" nursery (they do not have many cactus, if any at all ?!), to set up a small website for him, take a look at the site so he can see that people actually visit his website.

To day was the first day that I watered the Pediocactus, Sclerocactus, and Echinocereus inside the unheated greenhouses, they only received a small amount of water, as it is still freezing every night here in Northern Denmark Many of the Pediocactus already had flower buds so it were actually time for the first water. With out early watering the flower buds often abort for me!.
