Yucca reverchoni


Yucca reverchoni Trelease Mo. Bot. Gard. Rpt., 22: 102, (1911).

Synonyms:
Yucca rupicola Scheele, Linneae, 23: 143 (in part), (1850).
Yucca rupicola Trelease, Mo. Bot. Gard. Ann. Rept., 13: 67 (in part), (1902).

Type location:
Twin Mountain, San Angelo, Texas,

Distribution:
San Angelo Region, Texas, at 400 to 1000 m. It is sometimes seen growing close to Yucca rupicola and Yucca thompsoniana.

Short description of the species:
Plants acaulescent, forming small or larger open clumps 40 to 100 cm across of rosettes which has few leaves. Leaves pale green, 25 - 50 cm long, concavo-convex, quite rigid, straight, 1 to 2 cm wide, margin of the leaves is yellow to brownish with short sharp "teeth's". Inflorescens 50 to 150 cm tall, paniculate. Scape held above the leaves, 35 to 100 cm long. Branchlets few. Flowers campanulate (bell shaped) to somewhat globose (round), 35 ,to 6 cm long, white to greenish white. Fruit 3,5 to 6 cm long, 1,5 to 3 cm thick, rarely constricted. Seeds black, dull, quite small 0,5 to 0,6 x 0,6 to 0,7 cm, whit out marginal wing.

Yucca reverchoni is related to:
Yucca cernua, status not sure, maybe a natural hybrid with genes from Yucca rupicola or Yucca pallida?

Hardiness:
Unknown.
I did in the summer of 2000, plant one inside my unheated greenhouse.

Notes:
This species need further investigation in habitat, and DNA investigation my prove that it's a hybrid?
