One of my frames with Opuntia fragilis and hybrids
the frame is protected with a "roof" from October to May.

South West Utah, it has almost no spines.
This one must be a hybrid, since Opuntia fragilis only have
yellow flowers, or yellow with red to orange center

This form has 2,5 cm long red spines, that later turn black. It's LaMar’s
favorite Opuntia fragilis.
So far have I only tried it in a pot that are in a protected frame.
